Haiti earthquake 2010

Haiti 1 Haiti 3 Haiti 2

After a 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti in January 2010, buildings were reduced to rubble and much of this already poor country's infrastructure was destroyed. Over 230,000 people were killed.

With about 46 percent of Haiti’s population under the age of 18, and many living in camps and slums, children were the most vulnerable of all.

Save the Children works in 119 countries. Our staff were already in Haiti working to improve the lives of children there. Thanks to the support and donations from individuals and organisations worldwide, Save the Children was able to immediately launch a global emergency response to bring food, shelter, health care and other assistance to more than 879,000 survivors of the earthquake, establishing 50 child friendly spaces and reuniting children with their families.

Save the Children will continue to work with the Haitian government and other partners to ensure children can access to health care and education and are safe to learn and thrive.
